Story from KOAM-TV
Local middle school students braved the chilly temps on Saturday to give back to the community.
Twenty-four members of Joplin's Memorial Middle School's student council spent the day raking leaves for the elderly.
It's all part of an ongoing theme for the student council - they are trying to do community service at least once a month.
"Kids do want to help," says student council advisor Jordan Blood. "They do want to serve. They've got serving hearts a lot of times, and it makes me feel great that I'm helping them have a venue for that, and it's just kind of inspiring that they actually want... they care about other people besides just themselves."
December's community project will be a toy drive with the collection going to a local hospital.
